Can a game show us the future of war? Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is months away from its November 13 release, yet they show us a reality-based game that is not so far in the future.
Call of Duty’s 2 minute promotional “documentary”, called “The War of the Future,” features Oliver North, combat decorated marine, military historian, and Fawn Hall boss, and P.W. Singer, future war expert and author. The video shows Black Ops 2‘s plausible scenario of what would happen if our advanced combat technology were to fall into enemy hands. It addresses the rapid development of military technologies (unmanned drones, robot exoskeletons, lasers, and invisible camouflage) and the possibility of its being turned against its creators. From science fiction, reality might not be too far ahead.
